We received our first Sharp Memory LCD screen! We're excited to move forward with designing our next iteration with this screen.
Our initial expectation was that Epaper would be an economical, durable, and power-efficient display technology for this type of application. After digging deeper, it seems not to be an option due to Eink's continued proprietorship. Despite massive effort, all we could find in the way of circular Epaper screens were $99/unit at bulk... not exactly within the bounds of what we consider to be economical.
Memory LCD is a similar technology regarding power efficiency and is far more economical. We'll have to make sure it meets our durability standards, but we're hopeful that it will... though the 1.2" screen did come wrapped in foam in a 19" x 13" x 2" cardboard box. :)
